How to Change the Oil on a Polaris Sportsman 500

Remove the seat, using the seat release mechanism. Pull the tab on the rear of the left frame cover out of the frame’s grommet. Pull the cover to the rear of the Polaris until the cover’s tabs release from the fuel tank. Set the cover aside.

Unscrew the dipstick from the oil tank on the left side on the Polaris. Wipe the dipstick with a clean, lint-free rag. Set the dipstick aside.

Place an oil pan below the oil tank. Reach under the left floorboard and unscrew the oil tank’s drain plug with a socket wrench. The plug is on the bottom of the oil tank, facing the front wheel.

Clean the drain plug with a lint-free rag. Screw the drain plug back on the oil tank after it has drained, using a socket wrench.
