How to Check the Fuel Lines and Fuel Pump on a Toyota Corolla

Two things make an internal combustion engine function: fuel and fire. If the engine in a Corolla isn’t working the way it should, then it’s because there’s a restriction on one or the other. If it’s fuel, then the two most common problems are a clogged fuel filter and a malfunctioning fuel pump. Check the filter for clogs and then check the pump and fuel lines.

Tools Used: Tools, Floor jack, Jack stands, Replacement parts, Adjustable wrench, Clean bucket

Check the Fuel Lines and Fuel Pump

Raise the rear end of the Corolla with a floor jack, and support it by the frame with jack stands. Slide under the back of the car and locate the fuel lines. The fuel tank is centered on the bottom of the rear and the fuel lines run from the front of it along the bottom of the frame to the engine compartment. Look for kinks or crushed areas in the fuel lines. In newer Corolla models, the lines are nearly always metallic.
