The anti-lock brake system, or ABS, in a Volvo 740 is designed to prevent the driver from locking the wheels due to excessive brake pressure. The ABS is always on and can’t be turned off by manipulating a switch or changing a setting. Removing the ABS relay from the under-hood relay box is the only way to effectively disable the ABS. Because it is an important safety system, the ABS should only be disabled for testing or repair purposes.
This process does not require tools.
