The 2002 Chevrolet Silverado came in various models, such as the 1500, 2500 and 3500 series. Multiple V-8 engine options were available for the Silverado, as well as Chevy 4.3-liter V-6 engines for the light duty variations and for the two-wheel and four-wheel-drive models. Due to the various body styles, engine configurations and drive train options available, it can be difficult to determine the rear axle ratio of any particular 2002 Silverado by a simple visual inspection; however, with the right resources at your disposal, you may be able to determine your vehicle’s rear axle ratio using manufacturer’s codes.
Open your vehicle’s glove box and locate the option code sticker. The option code sticker will contain a number of three-character RPO codes that will contain information relating to the type of rear axle installed on your vehicle.
