To inspect the 2009 Toyota Corolla’s drive belt, look for cracks in the grooves and fraying on the outside edges. Small irregularly spaced cracks are not a problem or reason for replacement. Only when the cracks are deep and continuous around the entire circumference of the belt is replacement necessary. If the belt shows evidence of fraying on the edges, look for worn or misaligned pulleys. The drive belt on a 2009 Toyota Corolla will typically last a long time.
Loosen the 14 mm bolt at the base of the alternator using a wrench. Turn the 12 mm adjuster bolt on the top of the alternator counterclockwise with a wrench to move the alternator down toward the water pump in order to loosen the belt tension.
