How to Troubleshoot a DEI Remote Start

A common brand of alarm systems and remote starters, DEI technologies can be equipped on many vehicle brands. These systems are synced electronically to your car and are used with handheld remotes to control the alarm or starter. Once programmed, a starter can be used from as far as a couple hundred feet away. You can troubleshoot the starter through the remote by replacing the battery or recoding the system.

Step 1

Remove the cover of your DEI remote using a flat blade such as a knife or a flathead screwdriver.

Step 2

Notice the location and position of the battery inside. Purchase a compatible battery and place it into the remote in the same spot as the old one. Snap the remote cover back on and enter your car to resync the remote to the starter system.
