Wheels on a Ford F150 truck should be inspected every 7,500 miles or six months, whichever comes first. If the wheel’s bolt holes have become elongated or flattened then replace the wheel. Lug nuts need to be checked for tightness with a torque wrench. The lug nuts can be accessed by removing the hub cap.
Types of lug nuts
There are three types of lug nuts used on Ford F150 trucks. There is one 1/2 inch diameter lug nut option and two 9/16 inch diameter nuts, one standard and the other with a swivel washer attached. Each type of lug nut has its own torque requirement.
Lug nuts that are 1/2 inch in size should be tightened to 100 ft-lbs of torque.
