The front axle U-joints on a 2006 Ford F-250 are a part of the driveshaft that connects the transfer case to the front axle. These U-joints have dozens of tiny bearings installed on each end, and when they wear down, then the U-joints will fail. This causes extra noise, and eventually, the driveshaft could fail. To fix the problem, you need to change out the U-joint on the driveshaft connecting to the front axle, which takes a few hours to do.
Things You’ll Need: Jack, Jack stands, Open-end wrench set, Needle-nose pliers, Bench vise, 1/2-inch socket set, Replacement u joint
- Lift the front of the F-250 using the jack and put jack stands under the front axle and the frame. Unbolt the front driveshaft from the transfer case and the front axle using an open-end wrench.
