How to Change the Oil in a Jeep Commander

Save a trip to the shop by changing your own oil. Jeep recommends changing the oil in your Commander every 3,000 miles. You can save yourself the labor costs by doing the job yourself. The cost of the oil is negligible when compared with the cost of going to the dealer and, while the job may take you a while the first time, once you understand the steps you’ll be able to move through an oil change very quickly.

Things You’ll Need: Wheel chock, 5W-30 oil, Socket set, Low container, Rubber gloves, Replacement oil filter

  • Park the car on level ground. Turn off the engine, set the parking brake and chock one of the wheels. If you are unable to fit underneath your jeep you may need to raise it onto jack stands, but it is not required.
