The rear windshield in a vehicle is typically the one most protected from damage due to its location at the back of the car. If you notice that the windshield in your 1992 4Runner has chipped and scratched areas, you don’t have to worry about taking it in to be repaired at an auto shop. You can save time and money if you purchase the few materials needed and do this repair yourself.
Tools Used: Tools, Dish washing detergent, Bucket, Soft cloths, Denatured alcohol, Razor blade, Adhesive syringe, Liquid resin adhesive
Fix the Rear Windshield
Wash the rear windshield with a mixture of dish soap and water. Combine both in a bucket and stir by hand until sudsy. Use a soft cloth to wash the window then wipe it dry completely. Saturate a cloth with denatured alcohol and wipe it across the damaged areas of the window. Use the corner of a razor to extract any loose pieces of glass from the damaged areas.
Fill a syringe with liquid resin and tap it a few times to release any air bubbles. This will ensure a steady flow of resin once you begin making the repair. Insert the syringe tip into the open chip or crack, and fill it completely. Allow it to spill over onto the window surface; you can remove any excess once it dries. Wait three to four hours for the resin to dry then scrape any dried residue from the surface with the edge of the razor.
