Your 1992 Paseo’s check engine light indicates a problem with the sensors on the vehicle. To diagnose the problem, your electronic control unit can be read by connecting the “T” and “E1” terminals on the access port of your vehicle. You’ll need to reference your Paseo’s service manual if you need a diagram of the access port. Once you’ve retrieved and translated the codes, you’ll need to fix the check engine light by shutting it off once the necessary repairs have been done.

Fix Check Engine Light
Open the hood of your Toyota Paseo and loosen the retaining nut that holds the negative battery cable clamp to the negative battery terminal. Lift the cable clamp off of the negative battery terminal.
Wait 15 minutes and then secure the negative battery cable clamp to the negative battery terminal by sliding the clamp back over the top of the terminal, and tightening the retaining nut with a socket wrench. This will reset your Paseo’s check engine light by erasing the stored codes on the computer.
