The oil pressure switch on the engine of your Toyota Camry detects the oil pressure in the engine block and converts it to milliamps. The information is then sent to the engine’s computer and on to the gauge on the dash. If the pressure falls too low, the computer may shut the ignition down, causing the engine to stop. If the switch fails, it may send incorrect information to the computer, making it impossible to know if the pressure is sufficient to properly lubricate the engine.
