How to Check the Fuel Lines and Fuel Pump on a Volkswagen Beetle

11

Two things make an internal combustion engine function: fuel and fire. If the engine in a Beetle isn’t working the way it should be, then it’s because there’s a restriction on one or the other. If it’s fuel, then the two most common problems are a clogged fuel filter and a malfunctioning fuel pump. Check the filter for clogs and then check the pump and fuel lines.

Check the Fuel Lines and Fuel Pump

Lift the rear end of the Beetle with a floor jack, and support the carby the frame with jack stands. Locate the fuel tank centered under the back of the car and the fuel pump in front of it on the passenger side. The fuel lines run from the pump to the engine compartment along the bottom of the car.
