27

Removing the front forks of your Yamaha V-Star 1100 Custom is part of a regular maintenance routine. Some of the more common reasons to remove the front forks is to replace a damaged seaI or to change the fork’s damping oil. Removing the forks is not difficult, but take careful note of the location of parts as you remove them from the motorcycle to make reassembly much easier.

Tools Used: Tools, 8mm, 10mm and 16mm Allen keys, Motorcycle stand, Bungee cords, 10mm socket and socket wrench

Remove the Forks

Loosen the pinch bolt on the right fork’s lower slider using an 8mm Allen key. Loosen the front axle with a 16mm Allen key. Loosen both front brake calipers’ bolts with a 10mm Allen key. Place the motorcycle on a lift or stand to lift the front wheel off of the ground. Remove the front brake caliper bolts with a 10mm Allen key and slide the calipers off of the front brake rotors.
