The 1995 Honda Civic has basic, bulb-type headlights. Each headlight is attached to the front frame with Phillips screws at each corner of the headlight. The headlight bulb is plugged into the back of the square, glass housing with a cannon-type plug.
Tools Used: Tools, Phillips screwdriver
Take Off Headlight
Open the hood. Decide which headlight you will remove first. Locate the cannon plug turned into the back of the headlight housing. Turn the cannon plug counterclockwise, and remove the plug and bulb assembly. Locate the four Phillips-head screws holding the headlight housing to the car frame.
Use the Phillips-head screwdriver, turning counterclockwise, to remove each of the four retaining screws. Remove the headlight. The process will take about 10 minutes. To replace the headlights, use the same procedure in reverse, making sure not to over-tighten the retaining screws.
Tips & Warnings
Do not over-tighten the Phillips retaining screws. The frame has small threads gingerly attached to the headlight. Breaking the threads and attachment points will require the replacement of your new headlight. Handle the wiring carefully. Damage to the wiring can cause a headlight to function poorly or not at all.
Be careful not to drop the headlight when you take out the retaining screws. Glass pieces can cause injury. Be careful to keep your hands away from any engine parts that might be hot. Use hand tools properly to prevent damage to the headlight and your hands.
