The 2005 Ford Explorer uses a high-pressure fuel system to deliver fuel to the injectors for maximum acceleration. There are a number of ways to relieve the pressure in the fuel system. One is to press down the schrader valve, which resembles a tire valve. You can also relieve pressure in the system by isolating the fuel pump or allowing the vehicle to sit. All of these will relieve fuel system pressure in the 2005 Explorer.

Relieve Fuel System Pressure
Open the hood to access the engine compartment. Locate the fuel line above the engine. There will be a red cap along the fuel line. Remove the red cap by hand to expose the schrader valve. Press the inside of the schrader valve with a flat-head screwdriver. Fuel will spurt out of the line, so lay rags around the valve to soak up any fuel.
