How to Replace the Axle on a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee


Taking right hand turns causes a clicking noise that steadily gets louder for weeks. Eventually, your Jeep makes a loud banging noise and a few crunches. All forward movement stops. Some vibration and the ping of metal follow the sudden stop. The CV joints/U joints have just gone out. Unfortunately, CV joints/U joints are hard to find. Instead, replacing the entire axle is required now. Save yourself some money by purchasing a remanufactured axle, which is as good as new one.

Tools Used: Tools, Four way tire tool, Magnetic metal tray, Siphon kit, Container, Flathead screwdriver, Two pieces of wire, Paint pen, Wrench set, Tape, Plastic bag, Small puller, Socket set, Ratchet, Axle

Replace Axle

Axle removal

Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel with a four way tire tool. Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack. Place a jackstand under the frame rail on each side. Slowly lower the vehicle. Remove the front wheels.
