The product line of professional video cameras can be daunting, especially considering each camera type may have a specific use. The model a production company purchases is extremely dependent on its needs and its budget. While all cameras share the same characteristics, such as lenses, focus, zoom and sound inputs, the technical details vary greatly. Most models fall into one of four categories.
Studio cameras are designed for use within a TV production studio. They generally are attached to large, mechanical stands with wheels to be moved around, have no recording device and send their signal to the production control room, and can be used in conjunction with other cameras.
