How to Check the Fuel Lines and Fuel Pump on a Saturn Ion

37

Two things make an internal combustion engine function: fuel and fire. If the engine in an Ion isn’t working the way it should, then it’s because there’s a restriction on one or the other. If it’s fuel, then the two most common problems are a clogged fuel filter and a malfunctioning fuel pump. Check the filter for clogs, and then check the pump and fuel lines.

Tools Used: Tools, Floor jack, Jack stands, Replacement parts, Clean bucket, Adjustable wrench

Check the Fuel Lines and Fuel Pump

Raise the rear end of the Ion with a floor jack, and support it by the frame with jack stands. Slide under the car, and locate the fuel tank and fuel lines. The tank is centered below the trunk and the back seat. The fuel lines run from the front of the tank along the bottom of the car to the engine compartment.
