To begin using your Jabra OTE-1-format Bluetooth headset, first you need to pair it. Pairing is the process by which a wireless Bluetooth connection is established between the headset and your computer, smartphone or tablet. After you’ve paired the devices, use the headset’s on-board controls to manipulate audio from your mobile device or computer.

Pair the Headset

How you go about pairing your Jabra OTE-1 headset varies depending on whether you’re using a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet, or a computer.

Pair with a Mobile Device

Step 1

Connect the Jabra OTE-1 headset to its charging cable and make sure its battery is fully charged before attempting to pair it with a mobile device.

Step 2

Turn the headset on and set it to discoverable mode. How you set the headset to discoverable mode varies slightly depending on which of Jabra’s OTE-1-format headsets you’re using. On many Jabra headsets, there is a multifunction button you hold down for several seconds to make the device discoverable. On others, you hold down the power button or a dedicated pairing button. Consult your headset’s manual to determine how to set it to discoverable. If you don’t have the manual, visit Jabra’s Support page to download one of the company’s user guides.

Step 3

Open the Settings app on your mobile device and touch Bluetooth to open the Bluetooth settings panel.

Step 4

Tap or slide the virtual Bluetooth switch to the On position to enable Bluetooth functionality if it’s not already turned on.

Tip

  1. When you turn Bluetooth on, your smartphone or tablet automatically scans for Bluetooth devices within range. This process can take a few seconds. Wait for the list of available devices to populate before proceeding. If necessary, tap the Scan button to scan for devices manually.

Step 5

Tap the Jabra OTE-1 headset on the list of available devices, touch Yes or Pair on your screen if prompted and then enter the pairing code 0000 or 1234 to finish connecting your headset to your mobile device.

Tip

  1. Depending on the Jabra OTE-1 headset model you’re using, you may not be prompted to enter a pairing code.

Pair with a Computer

Step 1

Connect the Jabra OTE-1 headset to its charging cable and make sure its battery is fully charged before attempting to pair it with a mobile device.

Step 2

Power up the headset and set it to discoverable mode. How you set the device to discoverable varies depending on the OTE-1 headset you’re using. Consult its manual for model-specific instructions. If you don’t have the manual, visit Jabra’s Support page to download it.

Step 3

Return to the Start screen on your Windows 8 computer, press Control-C and then select Settings on the Charms menu.

Step 4

Click PC Settings, choose PC & Devices and then click Bluetooth on the PC & Devices menu to open your computer’s Bluetooth settings screen.

Step 5

Click the virtual Bluetooth switch to enable Bluetooth functionality if it’s not already turned on, select your Jabra OTE-1 headset on the list of Bluetooth devices and then click the associated Pair button. Enter the pairing code 1234 or 0000 if prompted.

Tip

  1. On Mac computers, pair your OTE-1 headset via the System Preferences panel. Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your Mac’s screen and select System Preferences. Select Bluetooth and then click the Pair button located next to your OTE-1 headset on the list of available devices. Enter 1234 or 0000 as the pairing code if prompted.

Operation and Tips

  1. After you complete this initial pairing process, your computer, smartphone or tablet automatically recognizes your Jabra headset whenever they are within range of one another.
  2. Available functionality varies depending on the OTE-1 headset you’re using. Some are designed with one multifunction button with which you start and stop phone calls. Others have additional buttons designed for volume control, and forwarding and rewinding audio playback. Consult your headset’s manual for more information on its available controls.
  3. Bluetooth devices have a maximum range of roughly 30 feet. Attempting to use your OTE-1 headset outside or near the limit of this range will result in poor audio quality and potential drop-outs.
